The Ray Beadle Band
Friday 6 August 2010
The Ray Beadle Band
"Ray is unquestionably one of the finest musicians I have come across... His song writing has a harmonic and emotional depth that many strive for but few capture. Ray's guitar work... well, let's just say this cat is VERY dangerous". - Blues Master Guitarist Chris Cain.
August guests at the club are the Chain Blues Music Awards 2010 multi-award winners The Ray Beadle Band, featuring Ray Beadle who is a man who has played with just about everyone on the Australian blues scene, and toured and performed in the US extensively. Ray Beadle is an established Sydney based blues musician. Considered among some of the best in Australia Blues, this talented young musician has been noticed world wide.
Ray has been described as the genuine article; as his music comes from the heart and soul. Ray picked up the guitar at the ripe old age of 9 and for the next 20 years refined his craft playing nationally and internationally. Ray has toured the USA three times, and has played residencies at BB Kings blues club in Memphis and Buddy Guys blues club in Chicago, and played at several American blues festivals. Ray has released several recordings, his latest being loaded released late last year.
South West BLues Club President Mike Hall says "this is one unbelievable show having seen Ray perform twice with his band, it is worth paying triple the entry price just to see them". This will be a night of dynamic high energy, first class blues from a top quality guitarist and performer with a rock solid band that is not to be missed. www.myspace.com/raybeadle

The Brainbox Project presents
Cabaret Soiree Carnivale
Sizzling hot new cabaret with international, national and local acts to blow you away!
Let our new mysterious ring master crack her whip and get the party started. We have a host of stunning performers paying tribute to some of the legends of the music world including: Edith Piaf, the 60’s Diva groups, Jazz and Blues classics, The Lennon and McCartney Songbook, Bette Midler, Marlene Dietrich,
Tom Lehrer, comedy performances and more.
Cabaret Soiree Carnivale commences - direct from France, Caroline Nin performing Thursday 1, Friday 2 & Saturday 3 July in Hymne a Piaf , a tribute to the legendary Edith Piaf. This cabaret is not an impersonation, but a homage by a fellow Parisian Chanteuse. She delivers the famous anthems such as La vie en Rose, Hymne à l’amour and Padam in her smoky jazz inflected tone. After sellout seasons at the Sydney Opera House and Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Nin comes to Perth to draw the audience into the uplifting and tragic world of Edith Piaf.
CoverGirls are local galsCaitlin Beresford-Ord, Sharon Wisniewski and Clare Moore performing 8, 9 & 10 July in Rhapsody in Red. They will tease, cajole and spank the songs of delicious 50 and 60’s divas Diana, Tina, Shirley, Aretha and more. Coo toBaby Love, lick your lips for Lollipop, beg for Please Mr Postman and run if you have Lipstick on Your Collar.
Cabaret Soiree Carnivale not only debuts all genres of music but includes the very best in Australian comedy.
Fresh from sold out shows at Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival, Adelaide’s Cabaret Festival and Sydney’s Mardi Gras, comedian/pianist Phil Scott teams up with dynamic singer/actor and WAAPA graduate Vincent Hooper in The Twink and The Showgirl, 15, 16 & 17 July. This fast moving hilarious musical show examines the differences and similarities between two generations of gay men. Expect a few parodies, some good old show tunes, pop songs, eye candy, ear candy, hot piano and loads of laughs.
Victoria Newton is thrilled to return to Perth after many years in the UK, where she was recognised as one the most exciting and dynamic jazz vocalists on the scene. Her unique versatility mixes a solid command of the jazz repertoire with a love of Brazilian music. Her cabaret show 22, 23 & 24 July is called The Poetry of Love: From Implicit to Explicit and is an exploration of sexual innuendo used in some of the most famous jazz standards such as Fats Waller's Honey Suckle Rose and Cole Porter’s Love For Sale.
Coming from Melbourne are three of Australia’s top cabaret performers Melissa Langton, Libby O’Donovan &
Mark Jones. Think of any of the major musicals in the last decade and we can guarantee these artistes have sung in them all. There’s something for everyone in The Great Liverpudlian Songbook – and this multi award winning cabaret trio serve it up with their trademark offbeat humour and a healthy dose of the hottest three part harmonies on the planet! Everyone’s Got Something to Hide (except for me & my monkey) is on 29, 30 & 31 July.
Enjoy the comedic delights of Melbourne comedian Anthony Menchetti (NBC’s Last Comic Standing) direct from critically acclaimed seasons on the Australian and International comedy circuits. He stars in Gay Conversion School Dropout, 5, 6 & 7 August, which tells the story of one man’s journey to find spiritual peace within the conflicting worlds of religion and sexuality.
Critically acclaimed Perth cabaret singer Julia Jenkins channels the explosive energy of Divine Miss M in an outrageous homage to this music legend. Complete with a four-piece band, Jenkins takes you on a no-holds-barred, full-throttle ride through 25 Bette Midler classics including Miss Otis Regrets, The Rose, Do You Wanna Dance, Glory Of Love and From A Distance. This electrifying show called Taking Liberties: A Divine Bette Midler Experience is on 12, 13 & 14 August.
In a Perth Premiere a young and energetic local cast consisting of Louisa Fitzhardinge, Izaak Lim, Nick Maclaine, Clint Strindberg and Andrew Williams, bring the witty satirical world of Tom Lehrer to the stage in Tomfoolery 19, 20 & 21 August. Tomfoolery, is a musical revue of songs full of wit, class and social commentary, featuring songs such as Poisoning Pigeons in the Park, The Masochism Tango, When You Are Old and Grey, The Irish Ballad and The Vatican Rag.
Local indigenous singer and WAMi award winner Gina Williams shares her life story in this poignant and moving cabaret. Gina was born in Perth and adopted out when she was a baby. She found out late in life that she was Aboriginal, her birth mother had links to the Balladong Noongar people and to the Kija group in the East Kimberley. Gina will make you laugh at her stories, think about her messages, and as you let your guard down she blows you away with her divine voice. A very special cabaret 26, 27 & 28 August.
A host of local talent - Brendan Hanson, Julia Jenkins, Sharon Wisniewski and Shai Yammanee feature in Le Grand Review, 2, 3 & 4 September. Our Emcee with attitude (and a whip) Queen B and her children of the night will take you on a kooky, crazy and downright outrageous night – rock and roll style – from Gaga to Guns and Roses, Queen to Florence and the Machine, nothing is sacred and everything will spin like a disco ball in Le Grand Chapiteau.
And there’s more local talent with cabaret artist Analisa Bell who will have you in stitches as she takes a closer look at the life of Australia’s most outrageous socialite, Rosie Portelou* in GOLD-DIGGER, The Shags to Riches Story Of Australia’s Iron Whore. From her days in the Philippines, to her infamous marriage to mining magnate Sam Bankock*, and then of course Billy.* This tongue in cheek cabaret runs 9, 10 & 11 September.
(*Please note any similarities in character or story to existing people are purely coincidental).
Finally we end Carnivale with an original cabaret written and performed by one of Perth’s most talented and respected professional jazz vocalists Ali Bodycoat. Minor Major Marlene, 16, 17 & 18 September, is a sumptuous and intelligent glimpse into the astonishing 65-year career of Marlene Dietrich. Bodycoat captures the charm, wit and severity of the original queen of reinvention with her exceptional vocal ability and poignant stage presence.

Groovy Boots Theatre presents
"Dimboola"
You’re invited to the wedding of the year… on stage!
GROOVY Boots Theatre is bringing an Australian classic to the stage this October with Jack Hibberd’s highly-popular play Dimboola.
Set at an Australian country wedding in the late 1960s, two families have a little too much to drink at the celebrations – and a variety of spontaneous songs, insults and fisticuffs are the result.
Directed by Phil Barnett and Chris Thomas, the two have set up Groovy Boots Theatre as an independent production company to bring Dimboola to life as a professional show.
Thomas performed in Dimboola 17 years ago and believed the time was right for a new audience to experience it.
“There’s something so quintessentially Australian about Dimboola and the way it portrays how families react to each other at weddings,” he said.
“Weddings have the capacity to bring out the worst in people, despite the fact they’re supposed to be happy occasions, as old family feuds, jealousies and rivalries are brought to life – usually helped along by alcohol.
“Dimboola is obviously an exaggeration of what can happen but given it was written more than 40 years ago, it still holds up today as a mirror of real life.”
Barnett said the motivation behind Groovy Boots Theatre and Dimboola was to “try something different”.
“It’s said that more Australians have seen Dimboola than any other musical, comedy or play in the past 40 years and it’s a play that really does embrace audience involvement.
“Given the wedding setting, the audience is incorporated as if they’re part of the reception, also receiving a three-course meal as the play progresses through the evening.”
While a bowling club may not be a traditional venue for theatre performances, Thomas and Barnett believe it suits Dimboola perfectly.
“Country weddings are often held in town halls, RSL clubs and similar venues, so the Victoria Park Bowling Club is an ideal setting for show,” Thomas said.
“You wouldn’t be able to set out the audience as part of the wedding reception if it was done in a traditional theatre venue.”

Darlington Theatre Players present
"Are You Being Served?"
a rollicking comedy by Jeremy Lloyd & Andrew Croft
directed by Ann Hopwell
Not a lot needs to be written about this as it is so well known. Briefly the story line is the store is being prepared for the sale of German goods. Young Mr. Grace is sending the much loved staff on a summer vacation to Spain to a one star hotel, where mayhem prevails, with the tropical heat, randy revolutionaries, Spanish crumpet and giant woof ‘n’ poofs.
Is this going to be too much for our happy band? Not a bit of it! With the aid of a nun’s habit, a bowler hat and Mrs. Slocomb’s Union Jack knickers, they survive their holiday with everything intact but their modesty.
This is a glorious mixture of over-the-top characters, double entendres, sexual innuendos and a bit of slap-stick thrown in for good measure!
Featuring:
Ray Condy, Russell Carter, Kirsty MacDonald, Callan Kneale, Geoff Rumsey, Keith Scrivens, Anita Bound, Justin Stevens, Raymond Morrison, Rachael Morgan, Adrian Ashman.

"Cabaret"
Director: Norma Latchford
Musical Director Stage Band: Sherril Ball
Musical Director Vocal: Fay Henderson
Musical Director Chorus: Elna Wright
Musical Director Repetiteur & Vocal: Brad Gilchrist
Choreography: Melinda Manners
The award winning musical “Cabaret” based on the stories “Goodbye to Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood comes to the Goldfields Repertory Club in August and September. In this beautiful intimate theatre, the show with all its haunting melodies and provocative dancing will be presented in true cabaret club style.
The musical, set in Berlin in the late 1920’s as the Nazi’s begin their rise to power, tells the story of an American author Clifford Bradshaw, played by Rep Club regular Tim Sadleir, who visits the notorious Kit Kat Klub and meets singer Sally Bowles, a role shared by newcomers Ellenmary Potts and Catherine Lyons-Nash.
Their love affair, and that of Cliff’s landlord Fraulein Schneider, a role reprised by the talented Clare Fleming, and her Jewish tenant Herr Schultz, performed by Gavin Yates, punctuated by performances from the Master of Ceremonies, David Lyons-Nash, and the Kit Kat Girls become a metaphor for the increasing violence and political theatre that is being played out on the streets outside.
Supper is provided in the interval. Drinks served by the Kit Kat girls.

Stirling Players presents
"The Woman in Black"
directed by Dannielle Ashton
This thriller is the bone-chilling, eerie story of a solicitor sent to a remote house on the thick, dank English marshes. There he attempts to settle the affairs of its late owner and gets much more than he’s bargained for when he is left to pass the night alone, cut off from land by the rising tide.
The locals believe the house is cursed, and the initially sceptical young man soon finds himself confronting the grim echoes of its blighted past and the terrible spectre that haunts it.
Starring Alan Kennedy, Adam Dear and Kyla Jones, this exciting play is directed by the experienced Dannielle Ashton, noted for her recent successes with A Streetcar Named Desire and The Boys at Old Mill Theatre in South Perth.

Kalamunda Dramatic Society present
"Days in the Dark"
Kalamunda Dramatic Society (KADS) proudly presents Days in the Dark, a moral dilemma written and directed by C. Aspden Pomfret, and will be showing at the Town Square Theatre commencing November 12.
Based on the Aspern Papers, a comparatively lesser-known tale by Henry James, is about two cloistered spinsters who have treasured up some unpublished writings of the great poet Jeffrey Aspern. An intrepid, young literary historian attempts to prise these riches from them, and finds his ingenuity and morality stretched to the limit.
Born in Atherton, England, C. Aspden Pomfret writes for both stage and screen. He is a late starter to playwriting and is extremely critical of his work. It was only under extreme pressure from friends that he submitted one of his plays, Mona, to Fremantle's Pocket Theatre in 2005, and that play became a hit with audiences.
In 2006, Carl's play Sex Toys was performed by Darlington Theatre Players, and it earned Carl the Adjudicator's Certificate for Inspired Playwriting at the ITA's State Drama Festival. In 2007 Carl was commended for his play Days of the Moribund at the Tod Hunter Literary Awards, and in 2009 he received an ITA Encouragement Award for Writing.
Carl recently directed one of his one act plays Hooker From Hell, a hilarious look into the oldest profession in the world, at KADS as part of the 2010 one act season and entered into the Hills Drama Festival. Carl has had plays performed at Patch and Marloo Theatres, and last year his play Mona was performed in the KADS' One-Act Play Season. Carl's other plays include Collage, Conscience and Other Torments, Delius, Days in the Dark, The First Henry, Raleigh and Regina, The Maid, Prince Charming and 1066 and is represented by TAZ Entertainment. click here to go to TAZ Playwrights

Harbour Theatre present
"Lizzy, Darcy & Jane"
Does the author direct her characters’ destinies…or is it the other way around? Fremantle’s Harbour Theatre is giving audiences the chance to find out how and what influenced Jane Austen to write one the greatest novels of our time “Pride and Prejudice.
Written by Joanna Norland in 2005 it was first produced at the Bath Jane Austen Festival in September, 2006, under the title Jane Austen Makes a Match. A revised version of the script was produced by the C Company at the Tabard Theatre, London, in January, 2008. Kathryn Eastman of the Jane Austen Society said at the time that this play “…..successfully fuses aspects of Jane Austen's real life with the creation of her best-loved novel, Pride and Prejudice . . . . lively, humourous and entertaining….”
Award-winning director Susan Lynch of Bateman has taken on the challenge of mounting Harbour Theatre’s production which takes a playful look at Jane Austen during the time she first started putting together her ideas for “Pride and Prejudice”. While she is living her own life – falling in love, experiencing the highs and lows of life, she creates the characters in her mind.
“We get to meet the classic Austen characters like Elizabeth Bennet, Mr Darcy, Lady Catherine and Mr Collins as they might have been when she first imagined them. I am a huge fan of Jane Austen and particularly loved the 1995 BBC series so the chance to work with these characters was too good to miss.” she said
“Lizzy, Darcy and Jane offers a lovely look at familiar characters in an unfamiliar situation- a different take on an author and heroine we all think we know so well.”
Award winning actors Olivia Darby and David Bruce have been cast as Jane Austen and Mr Darcy with Jennifer O’Meara as Elizabeth Bennet supported by Kate Moulder as Lady Catherine De Burgh together with a host of other talented local actors playing the oh-so familiar characters from the novel.
Susan Lynch adds “Directing such a talented team of actors is deeply rewarding. The team has met head-on the challenges of playing deeply complex characters set in a completely different world to the one in which we currently live, with extraordinarily fine results”.
Featuring:
Olivia Darby, David Bruce, Jennifer O'Meara, Kate Moulder and more...
